Maestà di Santa Luce is the name of a new wine-making project of Società Agricola Illuminati GMM, aimed at taking advantage of a land of over 6 hectares of vineyard owned by the Illuminati family, located within the Municipality of Foiano della Chiana, in the hilly area known as “La Maestà” due to the presence of a small sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
We aspire to produce high quality wine both from the agronomic and the oenological points of view. For that reason we have decided to produce initially only a limited number of bottles with only one label (1400 in 2019 related to the 2017 vintage) trying to reach excellent quality standards.
MMaestà di Santa Luce is an IGT wine made entirely with Syrah grapes. This wine is characterised by a bright ruby red colour and an intense and complex bouquet; it offers hints of ripe red fruits like cherry and plum, intense spicy notes mainly of black pepper accompanied by slight notes of vanilla but also chocolate with a pleasant ending of balsamic aroma.
The taste is compact, concentrated, persistent, warm and characterised by elegant tannins with a typical fruity and spicy finish. Thanks to its peculiar taste and scent, Maestà di Santa Luce is perfectly paired with first courses with meat sauce, grilled red meat, stewed game and spicy stewed beef.
We organize, by reservation, wine tours for small groups of wine lovers - from two up to a maximum of ten people - at a cost of 15 euros per person. The tour includes a visit to the vineyard and to the small Marian shrine, where our guests will have the chance to walk among the vines, plunging into history and admiring the typical landscape of the Tuscan countryside.
The tour then continues with a visit to the winery and a tasting of the Maestà di Santa Luce vintages accompanied by cold cuts and Tuscan zero-kilometer cheeses, bruschette, tomato soup and in the winter months, polenta or ribollita.
